The survey, by a team of researchers led by Brenda Malinauskas from East Carolina University, USA, was conducted on 185 college girls who were asked about their weight perception, dieting practices and physical activity.

The researchers found that not only had 83 percent of the girls reported trying to control their weight or having tried to control their weight.

The survey also showed that 9 percent of college girls turn to smoking as a way to lose weight, and that 32 percent of them skip breakfast.

The team found that only 19 percent of college girls exercise enough to promote weight loss.

The study is published in the open access journal Nutrition Journal.
