Colleges unite to demand students union poll

ALLAHABAD UNIVERSITY constituent colleges? students have united to demand students union election. This was decided at a meeting at Chaudhari Mahadev Prasad Degree College (CMPDC) on Tuesday.

According to a communique issued by CMPDC’s Indresh Mishra students of Iswar Saran Degree College (ISDC), Allahabad Degree College (ADC), Ewing Christian College (ECC) and CMPDC formed Sanyukt Sangharsh Morcha (SSM). Ram Shankar Pandey was elected convenor, Anurag Shukla assistant convenor and CMPDC’s Dinesh Kumar Pandey media officer.

SSM office-bearers were also elected for constituent colleges. In CMPDC  Ram Chandra Yadav was elected co-convenor, Indresh Kumar Mishra president while Amar Singh Gautam was elected general secretary. In ADC, Sameer Pandey was elected co-convenor, Vidyaraman Singh president and Dharmendra Pandey general secretary. In ISDC Shiv Prasad Shukla was co-convenor, Pankaj Kumar Sonkar president and Anurag Srivastava general secretary. In ECC Rajeev Singh Chauhan was elected co-convenor, Pankaj Tiwari president and Gaurav Raj general secretary.

The students also handed over a memorandum for the AU vice-chancellor to the CMPDC principal. 

Students to intensify stir

ALLAHABAD UNIVERSITY (AU) student leaders and administration are at loggerheads over students’ union election. While student leaders have declared to break the ‘peace zone’, the varsity administration is determined to take severe action those found violating discipline.

A group of student leaders met the acting Vice-Chancellor Prof Janak Pandey and  demanded him to declare the students’ union election. The students claimed that Prof Pandey assured them of discussing the matter with the V-C and to take positive decision.  Later, in a meeting, the student leaders decided to go on fast-unto-death at V-C office from December 1 and to intensify the demonstration with support from the students of constituent colleges. 

AU Proctor Jata Shankar said the varsity authorities will take strict action against those found disturbing the peace on the campus and the guilty will be suspended immediately.

STUDENT THRASHED: A student was reportedly thrashed by some persons for misbehaving with a girl student. According to sources, Raj Mangal Tiwari, a student of  BA-I was allegedly teasing a girl student of BA-I for few days. Tiwari repeatedly harassed the girl despite her protest. On Tuesday, the girl’s brother reached the college and reportedly thrashed him.
