Gujarat government has appointed a high-level committee to inquire the possible causes behind the bus accident in Vadodara district on Wednesday morning in which at least 42 persons, mostly children, were killed, official sources said.

The three-member committee will consist of two government secretaries and a senior police official, sources said. The committee will inquire into all the aspects of the mishap involving a Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) bus before submitting its report to the government.
The state government has also announced a compensation of Rs one lakh to the families of those killed in the accident. Water Resources Minister Nitin Patel and Minister of State for Home Amit Shah have also rushed to the spot.
At least 42 people, most of them children on their way to school, were killed when the bus fell into Narmada canal at Bodeli village, about 60 kms from Vadodara.
The bus was on its way from Targol to Bodeli when the mishap occurred.
