The Education Department of the Delhi government has decided to constitute a committee to inquire into the school bus accident on Monday in which more than 20 schoolchildren were injured.

The committee would also suggest measures for the prevention of such accidents in future. Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely on Tuesday went to St Stephen's Hospital to enquire about a student, Mohit Bajaj, who was grievously injured in the accident.

Lovely later said that the government would take action against schools that are violating safety norms and are using private vehicles to ferry students to the schools. He also requested parents to send their children to schools only in vehicles that fulfill safety requirements.

The committee, headed by the Deputy Director of Education, would also find out which public schools are using private and unsafe modes of transport for the students. Lovely said schools and bus owners found to be violating safety norms would not be spared.

Last month, a three-year-old boy was run over by a school bus in Rohini and two students of a Central School were killed in an accident in Naraina.
