Addressing the meeting, Member of the Governing Council of HCBA Ashish Dubey said the increasing pollution in the Ganga has adversely affected the environment surrounding it. If the pollution in the river were not checked immediately, the environment surrounding would become poisonous.
Mrityunjaya Tiwari said maximum trees should be planted to check the pollution in the environment.
In his presidential address, former secretary of the HCBA IK Chaturvedi said there was a need to create awareness among the public for protection of the environment and joint efforts should be initiated in this direction.
Joint Secretary (Press) of HCBA Shashi Sekhar Tiwari said a seminar would be organised on pollution in the Ganga in July 2006 at the Library Hall of HCBA.
In addition to it, a tree plantation drive would also be launched.
Others who attended the meeting included vice-president of HCBA Radhey Shyam Shukla, Joint Secretary (administration) of HCBA Manoj Kumar Mishra, Treasurer of HCBA Himanshu Singh and advocate Deepak Dubey.
AMA members plant saplings The Allahabad Medical Association (AMA) members planted saplings on the AMA campus to mark the World Environment Day on Monday.
AMA president Dr AK Bansal said tree plantation was the best way to protect the environment. People should realise that playing with nature could lead to disastrous consequences, he said. “If we have to live, we have to live with nature, otherwise ecological imbalance will spell disaster. A small beginning to protect the environment will prove to be a major revolution in due course,” he added.
AMA president-elect Dr GS Sinha said it was the right time for people to lend active support to the cause of the environment. Planting trees, minimum use of vehicles and other means causing pollution should be the duty of every person to restore the ecological balance, he said.
Dr AK Bansal, Dr GS Sinha, Dr Ashok Agarwal, Dr Anil Shukla, Dr Anil Agrawal, Dr Manoj Bhargava and Dr Amitav Ghosh planted trees on the campus and took a pledge to lend active support to the cause of the environment.
