“The pollution level is increasing in different cities in the country and the government is not utilising available resources to redress the problems”, Col V Katju told medipersons here on Wednesday.

He said his organisation was emphasising on Solid Waste Management System, Vermiculture, Plantation, Paper Re-cycle etc. under its Clean India Programme to redress the problem of rising pollution. He further added that Clean India programme was running in 78 different cities across the nation.

Col Katju said rising pollution level in the religious city of Varanasi was a matter of grave concern. The problem could be solved only when common people became aware in this regard.

Society For Social Action and Research (SSAR), an NGO, is coordination the Clean India Programme in Varanasi. Secretary of SSAR, Tarun Kumar Dwivedi said that as part of Clean India Programme, Harihar Vihar Colony of Varanasi would be taken as a model colony in which a Solid Waste Managment System would be installed to keep the colony pollution-free.

He said that this colony would be presented as a source of inspiration for people in rest of the city to keep their residential areas clean. “Besides these, several programmes like plantaion drive and pollution awareness campaign are in progress in different residential colonies in Varanasi”, Tarun said.
