Cong releases list for Nagaland polls

The ruling Congress in Nagaland has announced names of its candidates for the ensuing Assembly elections in the state slated for February 26.

The ruling Congress in Nagaland has announced names of its candidates for the ensuing Assembly elections in the state slated for February 26.

The list of candidates for all the 60 Assembly constituencies was released at a function held at the Congress Bhavan in Kohima, on Monday. Prominent among those fielded for the polls are NPCC president and Chief Minister, S C Jamir, Planning and Urban Development Minister, Imtisungit, Speaker, Z Lohe, Health and Family Welfare Minister, Neiba Ndang, Industries Minister, Imkong, Education Minister, H Chuba Chang, Minister for Civil Supplies, P Enyie, Roads and Bridges Minister, K V Pusa, PHE Minister, Tokeho Yepthomi and Art and Culture Minister John Lotha. Chief Minister Jamir will contest from the prestigious Anglenden Assembly constituency in Mokokchung district.

There are some new faces too among the 60 Congress candidates including Supongmeren, Takatiba Masa, Medokul Sophie, T Saku Aier, Kevi Zakiesatuo and Yafgkithung Yanthan. Sitting Congress MLAs Aolepden, Shiakpong Konyak, Eongnao Konyak and Shingnyu do not figure in the list.

The party gave tickets to four out of eight sitting independent MLAs. Neiphiu Rio, former home minister and senior Congress leader, Science and Technology Minister, T Chuba, Excise Minister, Phongshak Phom, PHE Minister, K Therie and senior leader, T A Ngully Hao earlier resigned from the party.
