The Bharuch District Congress Committee on Thursday passed a resolution that personal advisor of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Ahmed Patel should contest from the Bharuch Lok Sabha constituency in the forthcoming elections.
The resolution was passed unanimously during the meeting of Congress district party workers held in Bharuch on Thursday.
Sources in the party said that Patel's name had been doing rounds for quiet some time as the candidate for the Lok Sabha seat from the district.
Patel a senior Congress leader hails from village Piraman near the industrial city of Ankleshwar. He was inducted into the Rajya Sabha for a fourth term in 2005.
One of the local party workers said that big question still remains unanswered, whether Patel would like to contest election in the forthcoming general elections.
The resolution just reflects aspirations of the party workers in Bharuch, but the final decision will only be taken by the high command, he added.
