The Congress members led by city unit secretary general Raj Kumar Singh gheraoed the office of the District Supplies Officer and raised slogans against black-marketing, hoarding and under-weighing of household items, especially cooking gas.

The Congressmen alleged that "rampant hoarding was leading to rise in prices and the situation was made worse by an indifferent state government."

Later, the activists submitted a memorandum, addressed to Chief Minister, to the District Supplies Officer demanding "a crackdown on hoarders and black-marketeers and a check on the practice of under-weighing, which violates rights of the consumers".
