The announcement came after the portfolios list was cleared for five Congress ministers by the party high command on Friday night and communicated to the Chief Minister. The NC had its list of portfolios ready from day one. It is for the first time in the history of the state that it has taken so long for the announcement and allocation of portfolios to the ministers.

Earlier in the day, when the portfolios were announced, Congress leader and Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand got Housing and Urban Development with ministry municipalities, Elections, Printing and Stationery. NC leader Abdul Rahim Rather was given finance, law and parliamentary affairs, while NC leader Ali Mohammad Sagar was given Rural Development and Panchayats.
