Congress may sack Maderna; kin grilled
Sacked Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna was grilled for the second day on Friday in the Bhanwari Devi abduction case.
Sacked Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna was grilled for the second day on Friday in the Bhanwari Devi abduction case. The CBI filed a status report in the Rajasthan high court. It also quizzed another Congress MLA Malkhan Singh Bishnoi, his sister Indira, and Maderna’s wife Leela.
Sources said the CBI also sought the court’s permission to put one of the accused Shahabuddin through a narco-analysis test, who however refused to take the test.
Bhanwari, who was an auxiliary nurse midwife in Jaliwada village, around 120 km from Jodhpur, was allegedly blackmailing Maderna with a sex CD. She went missing from Bilera in Jodhpur on September 1. The CBI has sent a copy of the CD to the Delhi-based Central Forensic Science Laboratory.
The BJP sharpened its attack on the Congress after the CD was aired on TV on Thursday. The party said if the Ashok Gehlot-led government had any morality left, it should go. An embarrassed Congress high command has reportedly directed the state Congress to sack Maderna from the party.
Luni MLA Bishnoi is believed to have introduced Bhanwari to Maderna.
On Friday, the CBI filed a status report in the HC and requested for a DIG rank officer to assist the search for Bhanwari. The court, however, directed it to the state government. The next hearing is on Monday.
