Giving this information to newspersons, district Congress president Abdul Mannan on Wednesday, lambasted the State government for dismal power scenario in the city. “As all our efforts and pleas have fallen on deaf ears, we have decided to express our resentment over the prolonged hours of power cuts by staging a ‘khatia’ demonstration at the residence of the divisional commissioner on May 5,” stated Mannan.

State Congress president Salman Khurshid, Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal and senior party leader RPN Singh would also be present on the occasion, he said.

The demonstration would be a unique one of its kind in the city, added Mannan.

Hundreds of party workers with their ‘khatias’ would assemble at Bhatia Restaurant, Parade, at 7.30 pm on May 5 and take out a procession to the residence of the divisional commissioner, said Mannan.

He said the workers would gherao the commissioner’s residence and also stage an indefinite demonstration till the power supply was restored in the city, pointed out Mannan.

Lambasting the State government, Mannan said, “Barely four to six hours of power is being supplied to the city despite the fact that maximum revenue is being given to the State government by KESCo.”

Even small towns like Etawah, Mainpuri, Safai, Kannauj, Hardoi and Rampur are being given regular power supply, asserted Mannan.

Without naming anybody, Mannan added Allahabad and Aligarh were given regular power supply because two senior BJP leaders belonged to these two cities.

Taking a dig at Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, Mannan said “Whenever the CM visits the city, normal power supply is restored. But as soon as he leaves the city, power supply is back to square one.”
