Congress heavyweight, Manoranjan Bhakta has won the lone LS seat in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands defeating BJP candidate by 30,500 votes.
Congress heavyweight, Manoranjan Bhakta has won the lone parliamentary seat in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands defeating his nearest rival Bishnupada Ray of the BJP by a margin of 30,500 votes on Thursday.

While Bhakta, who was the Lok Sabha MP from the islands for seven consecutive terms between 1977 and 1999, polled 85,794 votes, Ray secured 55,294. There were 12 candidates in the fray.
The breakup of the votes secured by the other parties are: Tapan Byapari (CPI) 4175, RS Uma Bharati (NCP) 2364, KK Biswas (BSP) 1122,NKP Nayon (CPI-ML-LIB) 1148, K Perumal (Swaraj Dal) 298, B Shanmugam (Lok Jan Shakti) 691, AB Dutta Independent 523, K Kalimuttu Independent 987 and GC Mazumdar Independent 543.
