Containing Taliban good for whole world: Mukherjee
Describing Taliban as a "dreaded" terrorist organisation, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said containing the outfit is in the best interest of Pakistan as well as the whole world.
Describing Taliban as a "dreaded" terrorist organisation, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said containing the outfit is in the best interest of Pakistan as well as the whole world.
"We believe Taliban should be contained. It is in the interest of Pakistan, it is in the interest of the whole world because Taliban spreads nothing but violence. It is a dreaded terrorist organisation," he said here when sought his reaction on developments in Pakistan.
Under pressure from Washington, Pakistan has announced a fresh "decisive" military offensive against the Taliban.
US President Barack Obama met Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai at the White House yesterday to forge a common strategy to deal with a resurgent Taliban and threat from al-Qaeda, whose leaders have found a safe haven in the two countries.
