In the order dated December 21, 2005, the High Court had directed the Principal Secretary (Home) to decide the representation seeking transfer of investigation of Rai murder case from civil police to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) within 15 days. The petition alleges that this order was not complied hence this contempt petition was filed.
This order was passed by Justice Tarun Agrawal on a contempt petition filed by Alka
Rai, wife of slain Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Rai and his brother.
To recall, Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Krishnanand Rai, along with his seven aides, was killed on November 29, 2005 at Ghazipur. Rai was elected MLA from Mohammadabad Assembly constituency of Ghazipur.
A named FIR was lodged alleging Mau MLA Mukhtar Ansari and his brother as accused in this murder case.
Election rivalry and gang war was alleged to be the reason behind the murder.

ADVOCATE GENERAL of Uttar Pradesh, Virendra Bhatia, will inaugurate the ‘New Extension Library Hall’ of Allahabad High Court Bar Association on the High Court premises on January 31, 2006 at 3.30 p.m. This hall has been named after former joint secretary of High Court Bar Association Late Tribhuvan Upadhyay.
Giving this information, HCBA joint secretary Prabha Shankar Mishra urged all the office-bearers and members of HCBA to attend this programme.
