SHORTAGE OF cooking gas has once again hit the district. Long queues can be witnessed here at various gas agencies. Sources said the shortage of cooking gas was man-made and black marketing of gas cylinder had added to the problem. According to reports, a truck loaded with gas cylinders was seen parked outside a gas agency and those with muscle power picked up the cylinders while genuine consumers who were waiting in the queue, had to return empty-hand.

It is to be noted that the original rate at the godown is Rs 288 per cylinder.

The use of domestic gas cylinder for commercial purpose has further aggravated the problem. Gas agencies were doing roaring business in supply of domestic cooking gas to hotels.
