Corporators of Babu Banarsi Das, Nishatganj, Daliganj, Murali Nagar, Hussainganj, Begum Hazrat Mahal, Aishbagh, PeerJalil and Ramtirth ward have warned the LMC authorities of public agitation if their wards are dissolved.
Only 26 wards are in the safe zone so far. The formula is based on the population of Lucknow, which was 21,85,927 in 2001. The city has 110 wards, which turns up the average number of population to 19,873 per ward. According to the formula, 15 per cent plus and minus in the population is allowed where the corporators feel the officials performing the delimitation work can cheat them. The ward with minus 15 per cent population stands up to 16,892 and 15 per cent addition comes up to 22,854.
Out of 110 wards in the city, 51 wards have population less than 16000, while 33 wards have population of over 22000, 26 wards have population between 16,000 and 22,000.
So, the axe may fall on the 22 wards. Corporators of these 22 wards are running from pillar to post to save their wards. Right from ministers to close relatives of the officials, the corporators have approached making all efforts to save their wards. The LMC officials are performing the work in rubbish removal office away from the eyes of corporators. They have also switched off their mobiles to avoid pressure from corporators.
Meanwhile, the delimitation work conducted by the Lucknow Municipal Corporation is nearly complete, said acting municipal chief Santosh Kumar. “We expect to submit the detailed report to the district magistrate on Monday after that adequate time will be given to corporators to file objections if any.”
