"Corruption has become a serious malady in the country. And it has become a malady of nature which needs to be confronted by all right-thinking people," Advani told reporters on the sidelines of a book release function here. Saying he belonged to a party which has "spearheaded" the country against corruption and pursued it "vigorously", Advani said corruption, besides inflation, had become an issue "which even the common man feels miserable about."

"Unless the whole political system is able to combat it effectively there will be no peace in the country," he said. Advani said "constitutional institutions" including the Supreme Court, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India and the media had functioned in a manner to highlight the "single issue vexing the nation," -- corruption.

"They have covered the events of the past few months right from the CWG to the 2G spectrum to certain matters in Mumbai (Adarsh Housing scam) in a manner as to highlight how corruption has become a serious malady in the country," he said. He said problems of inflation and corruption had been highlighted in Parliament during the previous sessions.
