Counting of votes for 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra began on Thursday morning amidst tight security.

The political fortunes of 412 candidates, including NCP chief, Sharad Pawar, former Lok Sabha Speaker, Shivraj Patil, former Chief Minister, AR Antulay, Union ministers, Anant Geete, Jaywanti Mehta, Ram Naik, MK Anna Patil, Subodh Mohite, Anand Adsul, would be decided on Thursday.

The fate of Speaker of the dissolved Lok Sabha, Manohar Joshi, Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde's wife, Ujjwala, former Union ministers Suresh Prabhu and Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, former deputy chairman of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, RS Gavai would also be sealed on Thursday.

The counting, to be held in around 41 centres, is expected to be completed early this time following introduction of Electronic Voting Machines.
