"The villagers were surprised that the couple did not present themselves before the Panchayat, as directed," Giriraj Singh, village leader of Pali told HT claiming, “About 3,000 villagers assembled at Bakuri village and held a Panchayat in this connection today.”

Nagindra, a resident of Bakuri village, belonging to the Fagna gotra and a girl of the Bhadana Gotra from Ghazipur near Pali had eloped recently and later married. This had triggered resentment in the two villages.
