Led by state secretary CPI (ML) Akhilendra Pratap Singh, hundreds of farmers and labours sat on hunger strike. Addressing the gathering, Akhilendra condemned the State government for its barbaric attitude in handling the protests and demonstrations.

He claimed farmers were committing suicide due to anti- national and anti-farmer policies of the State government. The government was accused of framing 138 party workers in false cases and crushing the voice raised to expose corruption by ministers and bureaucrats.

Akhilendra said cops were committing atrocities on the behest of the chief minister. He said rioters in Mau went on a looting and killing spree in the presence of police. He said incidents like Gujarat were on the rise in UP.

Allahabad High Court had termed an incident of rape as similar to Zahir Sheikh’s in Gujarat. In Barabanki crowd burnt the shops of minority community members but the government shielded the culprits, he said.

Addressing the gathering, State president of Nationalist Congress Party Ramesh Dixit called the present situation in the State similar to emergency clamped by Indira Gandhi. “There is undeclared emergency in the State, no one is safe under Mulayam rule.” The speakers also criticised poor handing of dengue and chikungunia in the State. The speakers expressed their concern over the increasing incidents of suicides in the farmers.
