Petty Officer Prem Shukla (37) has gone missing at sea on board INS Godavari since April 12.

Navy spokesperson Captain M. Nambiar said all sailors including captain Atul Kumar, in-charge of the ship, would be questioned.

Vinod Panday, Shukla’s brother-in-law, said the family hopes he is alive.

“Prem had told his wife that his strictness was disliked by his juniors. It might be the cause behind him missing,” said Panday.

He said the navy told them that they had recovered Shukla’s cellphone and would check his call records.

“Prem had called his wife Usha, sister Seema and Poonam Panday before boarding the ship on April 10 from Kerala. Atul Kumar said Shukla may have disappeared between 1.30 am and 4 am during his duty hours,” said Panday.
