Strongly condemning the attack on the CRPF group centre in the wee hours, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil said the MHA was in touch with the state government and CRPF authorities.

"A detailed report has been sought about the facts and circumstances of the incident and concerned authorities have been asked to take immediate and effective measures to identity and trace the culprits and bring them to book," Patil said in a statement.

Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal, who was going to Rampur to get a first hand account of the incident, said the attackers killed two guards at the first gate and two more at the second gate before barging into the camp.
He said efforts were on to apprehend the attackers.

Heavily-armed militants struck at a CRPF camp at Rampur, killing eight persons, including seven security personnel and leaving five others injured.
