Unidentified militants hurled a grenade towards a CRPF patrol party near the main chowk in the Sopore town, 52 kms from Srinagar, around 1430 hours, they said.
The grenade exploded with a big bang, causing splinter injuries to two jawans and five pedestrians who were later hospitalised.
The whole area was immediately cordoned off by the reinforcements of police and CRPF and a hunt was launched to nab the militants involved in the attack.
No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the incident.
This is the second grenade attack by militants in the North Kashmir town in last eight days. On December 18, militants targeted a CRPF picket in the town, injuring five jawans and a civilian.
