Curfew imposed in Aligarh after communal clash

Indefinite curfew was on Thursday imposed in three police station areas in this communally sensitive city after violent clash between members of two communities following a dispute over a place of worship, police said.

State paramilitary forces along with a large number of police personnel have been deployed and patrolling intensified to maintain law and order, District Magistrate RK Singh said in Aligarh.

Indefinite curfew has been imposed in Kotwali, Delhi Gate and Sasni Gate police stations areas in the old city following the incidents, he said.

Members of the two communities indulged in brickbating and firing from rooftop at Sabzi Mandi and Dahi Wali Gali areas under Kotwali police circle in the old city following a dispute over a place of worship on Wednesday night.

Security personnel have been deployed in the troubled areas to maintain law and order and reinforcements were being rushed there, police said.

Senior official were present on the spot and monitoring the situation which was stated to be tense but under control, they added.
