Curfew imposed on Kashmir valley to thwart separatists' march

The entire Kashmir valley was brought under indefinite curfew in the wee hours on Sunday to thwart a march by separatists to Lal Chowk in Srinagar on Monday.
A virtual siege was laid around Lal Chowk as a large posse of gun-carrying security personnel took up positions in and around the area.
In certain civilian areas which are prone to stone-pelting incidents, mobile teams of the police and para-military forces were seen with their anti-riot gear on.
A private television channel -- Sen TV-- was also banned for allegedly inciting people to disturb public peace and tranquility.
"Despite repeated advice to the channel to conform to the provision of the Act and adhere to the written undertaking given by it, the channel continued to put out objectionable material aiming at disturbing the public peace and order," an official spokesperson said.
A number of separatist leaders, including JKLF leader Yaseen Malik, were put under preventive custody. Hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani was shifted to a hospital after he complained of chest pain.
Senior police officials were seen busy on the roads making last minute arrangements and also to ensure that general public did not face any problems due to these administrative measures.
