DA & DR up by 6 per cent

IN A bid to further reduce the gap of Dearness Allowance being given to State employees in comparison to their central counterparts and also to appease employee's fraternity, the State Government today increased the Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) by six per cent.

IN A bid to further reduce the gap of Dearness Allowance being given to State employees in comparison to their central counterparts and also to appease employee's fraternity, the State Government today increased the Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) by six per cent. The increased DA and DR will be paid in the salary and pension of May.

About six lakhs employees and over three lakhs pensioners of the State will be benefited with the decision. At present the dearness allowance and the dearness relief are payable to the employees and pensioners at the rate of 59 per cent. With the six per cent hike, they would get DA and DR at the rate of 65 per cent.

The increase in dearness allowance would entail estimated annual financial burden of about Rs 270 crore on the State exchequer including Rs 216 crore on dearness allowance to employees and Rs 54 crore on dearness relief to pensioners.

However, sensing the growing resentment among employees towards the Government, it decided to increase DA. However, the gap of nine per cent still exists between employees of central and the State Government.

While Central Government employees are getting 74 per cent DA, after today's hike, State employees would get only 65 per cent DA. However, the State Government has not said anything about the outstanding arrears of the increased DA.

On the one hand officers of All India Services are getting benefit arrears, on the other hand employees are deprived of outstanding arrears, said senior employee leader R C Gupta. Gupta who is also state general secretary of MP Shashkiya Adhikari Karmachari Jankalyan Sangh requested the Government to issue orders of outstanding DA installments and arrears.
