In 1999 he contested the election under no major political party. This saw him win against the BJP candidate Dileepbhai Bhurkud by a margin of 5724 votes.

This has been the state of events in the region as Delkar Mohanbhai Sanjibhai had won the previous elections contesting under the BJP ticket in the Lok Sabha Election as well as the 1996 election when he had contested under the parliamentary ticket of the Congress.
