Now that Morning Raga is complete, award-winning playwright Mahesh Dattani has no reason to be away from stage. Luckily, he has been invited by Habitat World to conduct a Playwrights and an actors workshop from June 14 to July 17. Excited to be back to his first love as well as to the city, where he wants to take long walks in Lodhi Garden, Bangalore-based Dattani finds these workshops stimulating. “I am constantly reinventing interacting with young people,” he says.

Conducting these workshops for the last 10 years, Dattani feels that “doing the playwrights and the actors workshop back to back helps both immensely. It helps the playwrights understand the process from page to stage. That they are not writing on paper but actually creating a blueprint that will find life in time and space with the actors. The actors benefit by having the playwright
present and gives them insight into the material they are working on.” One of his last workshops in Delhi brought to the fore a talented young playwright in Nicholas Kharkongor, who has carved a niche for himself as a playwright since then.
