Day 1: Devotees throng city temples
DEVOTEES THRONGED the temples since early morning to worship Maa Shailputri on the first day of Navratra on Thursday.
The environment reverberated with Shatchandi paath and Sri Durga Saptashati paath. Hawan, arti and other rituals were performed in the temples on the occasion. Many people organised 'mundan sanskar' on Thursday.
Worshippers were seen making a beeline to the temples with the crack of dawn. Embellished with flowers and decorative lights, the temples donned an altogether a different look on the day which added to the festive spirit. Besides, the splendid sringar of the Goddess attracted one and many.
Coconuts and chunris were offered as the main offerings.
The sringar of Maa Lalita Devi was done with colourful flowers. Paath of Durga Saptshati was performed in the morning while Shatchandi Mahayagya was held in the evening. Bhagwati Jagran was held in the evening. Chaitra Navratri Mela also started on the occasion.
Meanwhile, another Siddhapeeth of Maa Kalyani Devi was thronged by the devotees. 'Mangal arti' marked the initiation of the auspicious celebration of Navratri.
The darshan of Maa continued till midnight. Thousands of devotees participated in the Shatchandi mahayagya, which was performed by Brahmins.
The scholars from Kolkata recited Sri Ram Charit Manas. Bal Vyas Pandit Srikant Sharma explained the significance of various shlokas to the devotees.
Magnificent sringar and decoration was witnessed at Maa Khemamai, Maa Alopshankari Devi, Siddheshwari Peeth, Kalibari and other temples.
On the second day of Navratri, Maa Durga will be worshipped as Devi Brahmacharini. Jewellery and flowers will be used for sringar.
Navratri parv was organised at Bhagwan Ram mandir in Civil Lines. Ramnavmi utsav will be held on April 7.
March 30 also witnessed the first day of Navsamvatsar (Chaitra Shukla Pratipada Vikrami Samvat 2063), the New Year according to the Hindu religion. Manas katha was performed at Kalyani Devi on the occasion.
