DDU varsity accounts frozen

THE GORAKHPUR Municipal Corporation has frozen the account of the Deen Dayal Upadhayaya Gorakhpur University for non-payment of Rs 1.95 crore as house and water tax. Assistant municipal commissioner Gopal Krishna Srivastav said that using powers under the Municipal Corporation Act 1959 (Sections 506 to 513) the corporation had ordered to stop operation of the bank account.

Srivastav said tax was not paid by the university despite repeated reminders.

Therefore, the corporation authorities decided to stop operation of the bank account.

He further said university authorities had paid Rs 3 lakh against the outstanding payment in a bid to ensure operation of the account, but the corporation authorities did not relent.

Sources said around Rs 3 crore are in the account of the university at Allahabad Bank (university branch).
