IT WILL be difficult to complete the ongoing beautification work started by the Allahabad Nagar Nigam in Katra does not seem to be completed before September 30, the day the Ram Dal of the area will be taken out this year.

As a result resentment is brewing among the members of the Katra Ramleela Committee regarding smooth passage for tableaux especially from Pani Ki Tanki to Manmohan Park crossing road.
It may be mentioned that Nagar Nigam particularly the administrator Amrit Abhijat has taken an initiative to beautify the main roads of Katra and get rid of frequent traffic jams and encroachment on the roadsides.
NN carried out its anti encroachment drive three times to clear the roadsides.
Illegal covering up of drains through additional constructions by shop owners were demolished by bulldozers despite heavy protests registered by the residents and shopkeepers. Administrator had inspected the area last week where he assured the people to see drastic change in the look of main market within 20 days.
However, at present the question has arisen if the road is not constructed through hot mix plant then taking out of around two dozen tableaux may not be possible for the committee considering the division of road through streetlight poles and potholes and gravel lying on both sides of road from Manmohan Park to Katra Pani Ki Tanki. Anil Kumar, a cloth merchant and member of Ramleela Committee, said that unless the road is widened with hot mix plant it would be difficult to take out the procession.
A resident of the area Pancham Lal said the administration should have completed this work before the start of Navratri.
Notably, Municipal Commissioner Satya Narayan Srivastava a few days ago took strong action against two contractors RG Traders and VP Construction cancelling their work order with immediate effect because of their failure in completion of fixing streetlight poles in Katra on time.
Srivastava ordered seizure of security deposit on the ground of violation to the agreement between the parties and NN. He said the work should have been completed by August 6, 2006. Dussehra is approaching fast but work has not been completed yet so the work order is cancelled with immediate affect, said Municipal Commissioner.
Now the wooden poles are being erected on both sides in order to get electrical fittings for illumination during Ram Dal . As a result it would not be possible for NN to construct the road in proper manner.
However, the Municipal Commissioner said every effort would be made to lay the road so that taking out of chowkis becomes smooth.
