Delhi squandered several goalscoring opportunities and had to wait till the final 10 minutes of the game to break the deadlock.

Mandrwal found the net in the 80th minute after a solo effort. The second came about when Delhi got a penalty just before the end after Chander Mohan was fouled inside the Himachal penalty area.

Mandrwal converted the spot kick to open Delhi's campaign for Dr B C Roy Trophy with a win.

They take on Jammu and Kashmir in their next match on Sunday while Himachal take on Uttaranchal.

In another match in the same group, Jammu and Kashmir played out a 2-2 draw with Uttaranchal.
