“Justice has prevailed. The fast track court has delivered the justice expeditiously. I hope the judgment will prove to be a deterrent,” Dikshit told reporters.

Two days after the brutal gang-rape, the chief minister had written to the then chief justice of the Delhi High Court, D Murugesan, requesting him to set up five special courts to fast track rape cases. Her request was accepted by the high court and the December 16 case was the first rape case to be fast-tracked.

Unhappy over the deteriorating law and order situation, the CM had slammed Delhi Police and even demanded removal of the then police chief Neeraj Kumar.
