As Delhi prepares to host the Commonwealth Games 2010, a world-class sports academy will be set up in the capital for long-term planning and search for talent.

Chairing a meeting on formulation of new sports policy of the Delhi Government, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday instructed the Directorate of Education to expedite setting up of a world-class sports academy in the capital for which 90 acres have already been earmarked, an official spokesman said.

She asked the senior officials of the Sports Department to invite global consultancy for setting up of a sports academy on the lines of the Haryana Sports School.

The new academy would have all modern infrastructure, is being set up as part of a long-term planning and to initiate search of sports talent by organising tournaments at district and zonal levels.

The Department has also been instructed to provide requisite nutritional food to the selected students to enable them to earn recognition at national and international levels and run for winning medals.
