Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and City North MLA Dr NKS Gaur has demanded regularisation of all the new colonies built in the city area considering the acute housing problem for citizens.
He said that all the houses built on estate land and occupancy tenancy land should be regularised immediately and cautioned the district administration against harassing the innocent residents. He said that demolition of houses built by poor and middle classes was not a solution. Instead the regularisation of such colonies should be given top priority, he opined.
Similarly, former MLA Anugarh Narayan Singh alleged that affluent persons were given land in the city area after violating all the norms while the poor people have not been provided any land during the last 25 years.
Referring to the administration’s dual policy, he said, on one hand it allowed construction of commercial complexes in several areas without complying with the norms but on the other hand people of Salori, Shivkuti and Teliarganj etc., who were living on occupancy tenancy land were being harassed by the administration. He said that people living on estate land should be given right to free hold their land.
Former corporator Raju Shukla said that without issuance of notices, demolition of houses by district administration was against the law.
He said that while the entire city was reeling under housing problem, the district administration had undertaken demolition of houses built on estate land.
Congress leader Mukund Tiwari flayed the district administration for carrying out demolition drive in Salori and other areas. He said people would give a befitting reply to the Mulayam Government in the coming Assembly elections.
He said that highhandedness of some district officials would prove costly to them.
He wondered over the silence of Samajwadi Party against demolition drive on the houses built on the estate land. It proved the connivance of Mulayam government in uprooting the poor people, he remarked.
