Dena Bank Manager caught accepting bribe in nagpur

Manager of Dena Bank branch in Nagpur was caught by the CBI while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 for issuing loan cheque.

Manager of Dena Bank branch at Khaperkheda was caught by the CBI while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 for issuing loan cheque, agency sources said on Thursday.

Bapu Meshram (58) was trapped last evening by the anti- corruption unit of the Central agency.

A middle-aged woman entrepreneur had applied for a loan of Rs 5 lakh from the bank for starting a beauty parlour in Khaperkheda town, about 40 km from Nagpur. The loan was applied through District Industries Centre.

She was approved a loan amount of Rs 1.35 lakh and the first installment of Rs 80,000 was due to be disbursed to her. However, Meshram allegedly demanded Rs 5,000 from her for issuing the cheque and later ageeed for Rs 3,000, they said.

A complaint was lodged with CBI which laid a trap and caught Meshram. An offence under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against him.

A CBI team also searched the bank manager's residential premises, the sources added.
