AN UNBEATEN 77 by Rajkumar Badoria rescued Ujjain Division from the precarious position of 93/6 to 225 against Bilaspur Division in the Maharaja Yeshwant Rao senior division cricket tournament organised by MPCA at the Police Lines grounds on Wednesday.
After Ujjain skipper Amit Chouhan won the toss and opted to bat first, Bilaspur seamers’ accurate bowling restricted host Ujjain openers as they struggled to score freely.
It was a pathetic show by Prassanna Bhand who was struggling and finding the seamers difficult. His missing form could be gauged from his unability to capitalise chances and cheaply lost his wicket. He made mere eight runs after facing 52 deliveries.
His partner Ashutosh showed his determination to stay at the wicket. His strokes were pleasing and he was confident in packing the balls to the fence.
O P Yadav and Amit Mishra of Bilaspur division could not trouble the confident Ashutosh who batted brilliantly and helplessly watched his team mates return to the dressing room at regular intervals.
In his first spell, former Ranji player O P Yadav could not maintain his line and length but the second spell was fruitful in getting to lift the ball from good length spot to put the batsmen to back foot. He bowled brilliantly and started taking wickets at regular intervals.
C P Sau, leading his team, did a good job in shuffling the bowlers at right time but he and the bowlers could not get good support from the fielders who dropped a couple of sitters helping host Ujjain to consolidate their score.
At one stage when Ujjain were struggling at 93/6, Ramendra and Rajkumar turned the table and started blasting opponent bowlers. They put pressure on the fielders by snatching singles and hitting the lose balls to the fence. Sau tried his best to brake the partnership in vain. Ramendra was lucky to be dropped by wicket keeper hence changing the situation for Ujjain.
Rajkumar Badoria by hitting the ball freely accelerated the run rate. Both Ramendra and Rajkumar added a 91-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Ramendra was back in the pavilion at his individual score of 34 with three hits to the fence.
Earlier, Aditit Sugandhi batted well to score 21 with four hits to the fence. Ashutosh scored a classic 50 with eight boundaries.
After the fall of Ramender, Ujjain tailenders could not score much and were all out for 225. Rajkumar who lost his partners at regular intervals could not hit a century and remained unbeaten at 77 with 10 boundaries.
O P Yadav captured five wickets for 51 in 19 overs that included four maidens while Sushant Shukla took three wickets for 37 and Amit Mishra took 2/52.
At the end of the days play, Bilaspur has scored nine runs with Ashish batting at eight and Abhishek yet to open his account.
Earlier, the chief guest and Ujjain Divisional Commissioner Jaideep Govind was introduced to the players and he inaugurated the match.
With the outfield being bouncy, players of both teams have to be careful from getting injured. Ujjain division is responsible for maintaining the outfield as they are organising senior division and other matches on this ground.
