The head of a radical Islamic political coalition was released from house detention and called for more protests in Pakistan against the Prophet Muhammad cartoons, his deputy said on Monday.
After being released on Sunday night, Qazi Hussain Ahmed called for more rallies against the cartoons published by Western media, mostly in Europe, said Liaqat Baluch, a senior figure in Ahmed's six-member coalition of radical Islamic groups.
Ahmed was among hundreds of Islamic hardliners arrested before a protest yesterday in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad.
"Our protests will continue. The European countries should realise the sentiments of Muslims. They should apologise to the Muslim world," Baluch said.
The government has been cracking down on the demonstrations that turned violent last week, killing five people in two cities.
