State BJP spokesperson Umashankar Gupta said that people of MP, deceived by his decade-long rule, had shown Singh his place in December 2003 election.

And, reasons for their despondency were not far to seek. The State’s finances were in a pathetic state, power crisis had deepened to unprecedented levels and inflated electricity bills were served on farmers and poor slum dwellers roads were reduced to patches and there seemed to be no hope for the State.

But, turnaround in the situation can be gauged from new roads laid in vast stretches of the State, improved power situation and progress in all other sectors, he said.
