Fate: Khan was gunned down by the Special Task Force and the Bhopal police on August 30, 2004.

Family: No one from Khan’s family moved the court. His father Irshad Alam said he had already severed ties with his son.

Police claim: The police said Khan was a sharp shooter having links with Jaishe-Mohammad. They also said that he was on a mission to kill Indian Police Service officer Vijay Raman, who led the operation to kill Dilawar.

IG Sanjeev Singh, who was DIG then, said Dilawar was killed after a gun battle.

However, suspicion persists as to why Dilawar was killed when he could have been easily overpowered.
