Justice Katju, the party leader said, would often rip apart the judicial system and thereby undermine this pillar of democracy. Describing his conduct and utterances as bad, Bharathi said his controversial statements lead to erosion of faith in the judiciary.

Justice Katju had blasted the DMK for backing a corrupt judge and accused it of arm twisting the UPA government into facilitating the extension of this Madras high court judge.
Justice Katju had also insinuated that a senior party leader of a UPA ally from Tamil Nadu had supported the tainted judge to the hilt. He however did not name the party or the leader, but left none in doubt as to whom he was referring to.

DMK supremo Karunanidhi also hit back at Katju questioning the timing of his revelations and counter charged him with trying to help Jayalalithaa gain a positive image on the eve of the judgment against her in the disproportionate assets case going on trial in a Bangalore court.

DMK leader secretary Bharathi too levelled similar allegations against Katju in his letter to the President and the vice-president that Katju made revelations after a gap of ten years with an intention to help the AIADMK gain political mileage.

Why did Justice Katju not speak about these allegations all these years, the DMK leader questioning asking the president to remove him from the office of the chairman of the Press Council of India.
