The abductors also allowed Sharma to speak to his family members. Sharma, son of former Member of Parliament R C Sharma, was abducted on February 2 while driving back home from a marriage function at Gwalior by a car.

Police claimed that the doctor, suspected to have been taken either to Rajasthan or Uttar Pradesh, was in the clutches of a notorious criminal gang which is active in Morena district. Superintendent of Police (Morena) Ravi Gupta said pressure was mounted on the abductors by police by taking into custody people having links with them and expressed confidence that Sharma would be rescued soon.
