“Please listen to students and understand their problems and concerns, don’t try to bully them into submission,” Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet from his official handle.

“Strongly condemn lathicharge on NIT Srinagar students. When will BJP and allies learn that brute force against students can never be a solution?” he said.

Tension had been brewing in the NIT campus since the India-West Indies T-20 World Cup match.

The paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was deployed in the campus late Tuesday night, and a team from the Human Resource Development ministry was sent there.
