DoT red-faced as 400 officers give BSNL a miss

With about 400 Indian Telecom Service (ITS) officers declining to join Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is in a fix over their fate. HT reports.

With about 400 Indian Telecom Service (ITS) officers declining to join Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is in a fix over their fate. They were repatriated to the DoT about eight months back so that they can be absorbed in BSNL and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL). However, they are not interested in joining the sick PSUs.

ITS officers form the management of BSNL and MTNL. They are employees of the central government and are on deputation in the two companies.

ITS officers get complete salaries even though they have not been assigned any work.

"The government is losing about R4 crore per month on the salary of these employees," said an ITS officers.
