DEPARTMENTAL PROMOTION Committee (DPC) meeting for considering promotion to the Chief Secretary grade of 1972 batch IAS officers was held today at Mantralaya.

Highly placed sources told Hindustan Times that names of the entire 1972 batch have been cleared for promotion. However, orders of their promotions would be issued on the basis of available vacancies.

Chief Secretary Vijay Singh; Secretary, Coordination, Government of India, Shankar Narayanan and Additional Chief Secretary, Home, S K Chaturvedi are learnt to have attended the DPC meeting.

There are seven officers in this batch including Sundeep Khanna, Rakesh Sahni, Vinod Choudhary, Badal Das, Anita Das, P P Mathur and A K Singh. While three officers of this batch – Rakesh Sahni, Vinod Choudhary and Anita Das - are on rolls of the State Government the remaining four are on deputation.

Those on deputation would be given performa promotion. With speculations that the DPC was being held to promote one officer only in the batch came to rest as the entire batch was cleared.

Though the DPC of 1972 batch was overdue, some eyebrows were raised in the State bureaucracy over the rationale behind conducting DPC when the number of officers in this grade is already in excess in Madhya Pradesh.

It is to be mentioned here that against the six sanctioned posts (three cadre and three ex-cadre) of the Chief Secretary rank, nine officers are presently posted in the rank of Chief Secretary in Madhya Pradesh.

Apart from Vijay Singh, other officers including Ajit Raizada, S K Chaturvedi, U K Samal, Subroto Banerjee, Ranbir Singh, Ramsajeevan, Mala Shrivastava and Amar Singh are also in the rank of Chief Secretary.
