Strangely, additional proctor of management course Ram Milan did not visit the Second Campus to take a stock of the situation, sources said. Later, junior students lodged a written complaint at the proctor’s office. Chief proctor AN Singh took strong cognizance of the incident and suspended immediately two senior students who were accused of misbehaving with juniors.
The incident took place around 1:30 pm when several senior students of Institute of Management Studies (IMS) including Rishi Kant Jaiswal (BBA-IB, third semester) and Afzal (BTA, third semester) started misbehaving with juniors.
They were demanding freshers, especially girls, to come in a dress code prescribed by them, which the juniors objected.
The seniors and juniors entered into heated arguments, following which one of the senior students whipped out a country-made pistol and pointed it at the juniors. Sensing trouble, some of the seniors (who were favouring juniors) intervened to pacify the matter. Later, they jostled while teachers turned a blind eye, alleged a student in their complaint to proctor.
Timely intervention by police saved the day. When the matter was brought to the notice of chief proctor AN Singh, he issued show-cause notice to two aforementioned erring senior student and suspended them. Singh ordered an internal inquiry into the incident. IMS OSD AK Bajpai said stern action would be initiated against the guilty.
What surprised everybody was the attitude of IMS additional proctor Ram Milan.
When the incident took place on the Second Campus, he was spotted roaming on the Main Campus. Reports pouring in from Second Campus suggest that Ram Milan did not visited the spot till late evening. The junior students expressed shock over this.
The incident has sent panic waves amongst the students on Second Campus.
Several freshers alleged that ragging had been taking place here for quite some time. But LU officials always preferred to ignore it. “On Friday, when our seniors crossed all limits and tried to misbehave with girl students, we retaliated,” said a junior management student.
