The district health department has already issued two warnings to the hospitals and clinics to get the NOC for the disposal of hazardous bio-medical waste from the Pollution Control Board.

The step is being taken to ensure that all the government hospitals, private and Non-governmental organisations-run nursing homes, CHCs and PHCs dispose bio-medical waste according to norms set by the Pollution Control Board.

The chief medical officer has also directed the sanitary inspectors to identify all those hospitals and nursing homes in their respective areas which have failed to get themselves registered at the PCB and do not have NOC. The Pollution Control Board members have also been asked to take appropriate action in this regard.

CMO Dr Shantimal Singhavi said the raids will start from Tuesday. During the raid the hospitals and nursing homes which will fail to produce the certificate will be immediately closed.

"We may also consider to permanently cancel their license. There is a clear direction in this regard by the Principal Secretary (Health). Moreover the nursing homes were also given enough time to get themselves registered with the Pollution Control Board.

It will be the joint exercise of health department and Nagar Nigam," he added.

District magistrate and administrator Nagar Nigam Amrit Abhijat has also directed the health officers to launch an area-wise drive against the erring nursing homes and ensure their closure.
