CUSTOMS AND Central Excise department has introduced e-payment facility for the payment of service tax in Bhopal. As per the department, the facility has been made compulsory for the taxpayers, paying taxes to the tune of Rs 50 lakh and above.

Addressing a workshop at the department’s Help-Centre at Malviya Nagar here on Thursday, Chief Commissioner, Customs & Central Excise, PN Vitthaldas said small taxpayers are also expected to use the said facility. He urged the taxpayers to benefit from the facility.

Vitthaldas said that the taxpayers need not stand in queue for hours to file service tax or excise returns and detailed forms.

Instead it could easily be done through e-filing. In the workshop the traders and taxpayers were apprised that annual returns could be filed simply by using internet facility and details regarding the same were provided. To get the e-payment facility, one needs to get registered. After registration, the department will provide a 15-digit code, which will be unique for every individual.
