Admitting a petition by the DMK MP C Kuppusamy, who sought the court's direction to the EC, a division bench comprising of Justice Dharmarao Elipe and Justice S Palinivelu directed the Commission to take action as per the law.

Kuppusamy, in his petition, said Jayalalithaa during the 2001 polls had suppressed the fact that she had filed nominations from four seats.

According to him, Jayalalithaa had filed a "false affidavit" saying she had filed papers from only two constituencies.

Kuppusamy contended that he had then lodged a complaint with the EC on the matter but no action was taken.
